A Day of Shame for the New Zealand Police

02 March 2022 will go down in history as a Day of Shame for the New Zealand Police.

Today, police officers sworn to serve Her Majesty the Queen, in her role as protecter of the people, turned their backs on that solemn duty and instead, served the whim of a tyrranical government. And the people of New Zealand will not forget this day.

Few police organisations around the world have enjoyed the respect and support from their communities that the New Zealand Police have historically enjoyed. That loyalty was spurned by police leadership and front-line officers alike today. And the people of New Zealand will not forget this day.

Police have an unenviable task and surely must gain a somewhat jaundiced view of the community they serve, through constantly interacting with some of society’s least honest, least upstanding and least pleasant individuals. And yet, that role is theirs. In times past, NZ Police have been able to count on the goodwill of the larger community to support them in this gruelling task. But the people of New Zealand will not forget this day.
